accessibility

we are committed to making rubble as accessible as we can. Please don’t Hesitate to contact us with questions ahead of your visit or anytime!

Getting to Rubble

  • Rubble Art Collective is located inside of Eco-Thrift at 314 North Howes St, Fort Collins CO 80521.  The maker space and used art supply store are located in the back of the store in the South East corner of the building, East of the clothing sections and South of the tool section.  You will see our sign painted on the upper part of the east wall above our “used art supply store” section.

  • There is a lot of free street parking in front of Eco Thrift/Rubble. Some of it is 1-2 hour parking before 6 pm but most of it is unlimited parking. There are a handful of handicapped specific parking spots within a block of the building but none of them are directly in front of Eco Thrift. Please see the below picture to see their locations.

  • We are located a block away from the downtown transit center that services numerous bus lines.  All bus routes are currently free, however most bus lines stop running around 6:30 pm. We acknowledge this shortcoming of our public transit system along with the fact that many of our community hours end around 8 pm.  If you take public transit and would like to attend our evening hours, reach out and we may be able to accommodate you by helping coordinate a rideshare.

  • During Eco Thrift’s open hours (Tuesday-Saturday 10 am - 6 pm) you can enter the building through the main front door (marked with an X on the picture below).  The most direct route to the front door has a couple of steps to navigate, but there is a slightly longer route to avoid the steps and get to the main front door.  Please see the picture below to see the location of this route. Once inside the front door, head east to the far end of the building where you will see our painted sign on the wall, from there turn right into the maker space.

  • Eco Thrift is usually closed during our evening community hours, so we ask everyone to use our “after hours entrance”. This entrance is located on the front side of the building to the West of the two large South facing garage doors. Please see the picture below for its location which is marked with an X.  Once you enter this door, take a left through the clothing section and then a right towards the used art supply sections. The maker space is to the right of the used art supply section.

PLEASE NOTE: We have made some accommodations to this after hours door to make it more accessible for wheelchairs as it had a severe one inch lip on the inside. We realize the adjustments we have made are not professionally done and may not be 100% ADA compatible but we are unfortunately not the building owners and have some limitations with our built environment.

During the warmer months we often have our large garage door open that leads directly into the maker space.  This is the MOST accessible entrance and we suggest everyone enter through the garage door. The garage door is labeled on the below picture.

What to expect in the maker space

  • There is a variety of seating inside of the maker space. There are tables with varying heights and different types of chairs. One table has wheelchair accessible spots. There is also a section with an armchair and small couch.

  • While the space is small, there should be enough space to maneuver a wheelchair easily in most areas of the space. There is one area on one side of the large oval table that is not wheelchair accessible. When the space is crowded with people, it is more difficult to maneuver around but we are trying our best to create a culture that is aware of accessibility needs and can support someone in navigating their needs.

  • We have various types of art supplies throughout the space. Some are in cubbies or drawers, some are in taller shelves or on top of shelving units.  With our limited space, we realize some of these items are not easily reached. During community hours, there will always be a “host” to support in gathering needed supplies and equipment.  If you are a member and want to use the space outside of set community hours, please reach out to us with your supply and equipment needs and we can ensure that these items are in an accessible area for you.  We are working on supplying grips for paint brushes and drawing implements.

  • We are a space that still asks everyone to mask up. We have masks of various styles at the space for anyone who needs one. If you are unable to wear a mask, we ask that you wear a face shield and/or practice social distancing.

  • During community hours we generally have music playing. It is usually fairly quiet to allow space for people to chat. However if you are sensitive to music or the location of the speaker, please do not hesitate to tell the host or reach out to us in advance if you would like no music or the speaker relocated.

  • There is a bathroom located at the front of Eco Thrift by their main front door. It is a large single bathroom that has grab bars next to the toilet. It is right next to the Eco Thrift donation sorting pile and their staff sometimes piles items too close to the bathroom door. We will continue to work with them to ensure there is a clear path to the bathroom door.

  • We have a brush/hand washing sink inside of the maker space that has hot water and soap. There is drinking water and glasses as well as hot water and tea bags. We have a drawer full of snacks that we replenish as we are able.
